Member of the Finnish Technological Society, Finnish Academy of
Technical Sciences, The Club of Rome, Finnish Society for Futures
Studies (President 1980--1989), the World Futures Studies Federation
(Secretary general 1990--1993 and President 1993--1997).
Awards: the State Medal of Finland, the Medal of the Finnish
Technological Society, the Aurelio Peccei Prize and Plate of the
L'Et\`{a Verde Association and the Futures Prize of the Finland
Society for Futures Studies.

His research interest covers futures studies, nature-oriented

societal development, policy and ethics issues on energy debate,
energy analysis of material development, third world problematique,
and management science modelling of practical decision situations.
